(Part 1- History)........
Thanksgiving Sunday in Tamil Methodist Church Tamil Settelement Ipoh will never be very easily forgotten by anyone. As i have posted earlier, we will have the auctioning after the church service.
Let me brief you a little on how the culture of this special Thanksgiving Sunday been celebrated in my church. Those days my grandparents migrated from India from a village called Maruthakulam in Tirunelvelli where this special culture of thanksgiving was brought about.
The thanksgiving service is at 1pm. Usually we have church services at 9am but for thanksgiving Sunday its different. Last time most of the people in India (Maruthakulam, Tirunelvelli) were all farmers. They used to go to their fields in the morning and bring all their yield of their crops to church. People show their thanksgiving to God by giving their crops or their first fruits. The crops usually vary from rice, corn, coconut, potato, yam, peanuts, aubergine, papaya and many more.
Not only that, people also bring goat, cow, chicken, turkey, chicken eggs, and many more. This things will be brought in front of the altar of the church and will be auctioned later after the church service.
So after the the church service, the auction will begin and people will start bidding. After all this all the money will be given to the church for all the church ministries. So that is how the culture of my church Thanksgiving service came about....
